WASHINGTON D.C. (CelebrityAccess) — The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC) is soliciting recommendations for publisher candidates to serve on the organization’s Board of Directors and Unclaimed Royalties Oversight, Dispute Resolution and Operations Advisory committees.
Established by the Music Modernization Act (MMA) the MLC is required to reserve certain governance positions for representatives of stakeholders in the music publishing industry.
If elected, the new candidates will step into seats vacated by several current publisher board and committee members whose terms are slated to come to an end later this year.
The openings on The MLC’s advisory committees are as follows:
Two (2) Publisher seats on the Unclaimed Royalties Oversight Committee, which recommends policies and procedures to The MLC’s Board related to the distribution of unclaimed accrued royalties;
Two (2) Publisher seats on the Dispute Resolution Committee, which recommends policies and procedures to the Board for the processing of royalties related to works that are subject to disputes over ownership; and
Two (2) Publisher seats on the Operations Advisory Committee, which makes recommendations to the Board concerning the operations of The MLC, including the efficient investment in and deployment of information technology and data resources.
Candidates will be selected by election with two openings for publisher representatives on the board for 2024. The MLC’s bylaws stipulate that a publisher is a music publisher who songwriters have assigned exclusive rights of reproduction and distribution of musical works with respect to Covered Activities.
