TOKYO, JAPAN (vip-booking) – Japan is gearing up to introduce a new rock festival featuring major acts such as Pulp, Weezer, Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream, and others.

British band Pulp and American group Weezer have been confirmed as the headliners with the announcement.

The festival, named Rockin’ On Sonic, is scheduled to take place at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in Chiba, located about 40 kilometers east of central Tokyo.

More artists are expected to be announced soon, with the two-day event set for January 4 and 5.

According to Rockin’ On Sonic producer Yoichiro Yamazaki, the festival will feature two stages: the 20,000-capacity Galaxy Stage and the 8,000-capacity Cosmo Stage.

Rockin’ On Japan will produce this event in collaboration with Creative Man, the company behind the popular Summer Sonic festival.

“I was initially concerned about whether international artists would be willing to come to Japan during the New Year, but both the artists and their management teams have been enthusiastic about the opportunity,” Yamazaki said.

“This event not only complements the annual summer festival but also provides a chance for these artists to perform more frequently in Japan. They are thrilled.”

(vip-booking) – France’s renowned heavy metal festival, Hellfest, has significantly contributed by donating 1 million euros (USD 1.092 million) to Savage Lands, a non-profit organization focused on reforestation efforts.

Founded by Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and guitarist Sylvain Demercastel, Savage Lands raises funds to restore forests and create sanctuaries free from human interference in Costa Rica.

The organization finances its work through song royalties, donations, and various fundraisers, as well as by building nature sanctuaries, establishing green zones and undertaking other land preservation projects.

Hellfest’s donation is part of a five-year partnership, with Savage Lands continuing to host a booth at the festival. The non-profit has protected 60,000 square feet of rainforest, funded entirely by music royalties.

Many notable musicians supported Savage Lands at Hellfest. Sylvain Demercastel was accompanied by Florian Pons (Loco Muerte), Poun and Etienne Treton (Black Bomb A), with special appearances by Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) and Daniel de Jongh (Textures) throughout their set. Chloe Trujillo and The Gathering’s Silje Wergeland also joined in.

For the grand finale, Savage Lands brought out Jesper Liveröd (Nasum), Alejandro Montoya (Cultura Tres), Billy Graziadei (Biohazard), and Shane Embury (Napalm Death).

“Our goals are within reach,” said Demercastel. “By converting the land we purchase into nature sanctuaries, Savage Lands sets a precedent for environmental activism. But time is of the essence. Ecosystems are still under threat, and if we don’t act swiftly, there may be no wildlife left to protect.”

(VIP-NEWS) — The Spanish consumer watchdog group, the Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU), has urged the country’s Ministry of Consumer Affairs to investigate ticketing companies for their online management fees.

The OCU has accused some ticketing platforms of adding “irregular” and “abusive” charges at the point of purchase without properly disclosing these fees during the buying process.

On its website, the OCU stated: “Recently, the General Directorate of Consumer Affairs reiterated its stance against the abusive application of management fees for online ticket purchases. An informative note from the General Secretariat of Consumer Affairs and Gambling aligns with the OCU’s position, which we view as promising news. We urge the Consumer Authorities to take measures to end this harmful practice that affects consumers and users.”

To assess the level of fees, the OCU purchased tickets online through 50 official websites for various events, including cinemas, theatres, museums, concerts, festivals, exhibitions, and football matches.

The group found that 20% of the websites did not charge management fees, while 11 of the 50 sites included the management fee in the ticket price. In 28 cases, management fees were charged separately, averaging €3 per ticket, roughly 7% of the final price, with some cases exceeding 10%. The highest management fees were found for concerts and music festivals, with extreme cases reaching up to 20%.

Addressing the Ministry of Consumer Affairs (Ministerio de Consumo), the OCU called for immediate action to stop the abuse of management fees in online ticket purchases. They requested that the fees’ application, amount (with proportional limits), and consumer information be regulated based on transparency. They also called for penalties for those who apply unjustified, disproportionate, or deceptive charges.

(vip-booking) – US ticket exchange and resale company StubHub has postponed its initial public offering (IPO) until at least September due to a “choppy market,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

Originally planning for a summer IPO with a valuation target of about $16.5 billion, StubHub had filed paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission that was supposed to be made public by the end of the week. However, a source close to the deal described it as a “tricky time” for IPOs, noting the absence of any recent “large, successful offerings.”

The source also indicated that StubHub faced a deadline as its audited financial statements would go “stale” this month. To list its stock without needing to update its audited financials, the company would have to make its filing public by the end of the week.

Bloomberg reported that StubHub will need to resubmit its financial information to the SEC.

Coincidentally, the delay comes just days after the attorney general for Washington, D.C., filed a lawsuit against StubHub. The lawsuit alleges that the platform deceives consumers with low initial prices that increase with additional fees, a practice known as “drip pricing,” which violates consumer protection laws in the U.S. capital.

“StubHub intentionally hides the true price to boost profits at its customers’ expense,” said D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb in a statement.

In response, the New York-based company expressed disappointment and maintained that its “user experience is consistent with the law” and comparable to competitors’ practices. StubHub also voiced support for federal and state measures requiring uniform all-in pricing across platforms.

The lawsuit claims that StubHub adds undisclosed fees at the end of the purchasing process, obscuring the actual ticket cost. It further alleges that these hidden fees can exceed 40% of the ticket’s advertised price.

According to the lawsuit, StubHub sold nearly 5 million tickets and charged consumers $118 million in fees, prompting the attorney general to seek damages and an end to these sales practices.

(vip-booking) – Coldplay drew over 178,000 fans during their debut concert series in Helsinki, Finland.

The British band performed for four consecutive nights at the Olympic Stadium from July 27 to July 31, with each concert attracting approximately 44,500 attendees as part of their ‘Music of the Spheres World Tour.’

Live Nation Finland confirmed that this event set the record for the highest ticket sales by a single artist or band in Finland for a single visit. Additionally, it was the first instance of a tour performing four consecutive nights at the Olympic Stadium, which had previously only hosted two concerts from the same tour at one time.

The band has been advocating for sustainable touring during their latest global tour, promising to reduce emissions by 50% compared to their previous tour in 2016-17.

To support this initiative, they partnered with DHL as the official logistics partner, emphasizing the use of advanced biofuels for air travel and electric vehicles for ground transportation.

On stage, Coldplay utilized solar energy, sustainable biofuels, and renewable grid power to support their production. In collaboration with BMW, they developed a mobile, rechargeable battery for the show, using recyclable BMW i3 batteries.

In June of last year, Coldplay announced a 47% reduction in CO2e emissions, and in June of this year, they reported exceeding their sustainability goals with the Music of the Spheres World Tour, achieving a significant 59% reduction in CO2e emissions.

This new initiative offers companies and individuals a unique connection with the independent music community.

The WIN Supporters program is available to those who want to support WIN’s work and engage with its entrepreneurs in a sustainable and mutually beneficial way. Supporters can leverage WIN`s resources and network to expand their knowledge of emerging markets, build meaningful new connections and partnerships, and access special opportunities to promote their services while raising their company`s profile.

The support of these new partners will assist WIN in continuing its essential work of facilitating connections between independents around the world through its WINHUB networking events, WINCON summit, and activities in emerging markets; promoting the values and best practices of independent music and our community; and leveling the playing field for the benefit of all.

The WIN Supporters program offers unique benefits that complement the Friends, Partners, Affiliate and Associate membership schemes run by national and regional WIN members. Businesses are encouraged to explore and join these programs for additional ways to engage with this growing community meaningfully. See more here.

Bandcamp, Marauder and Random Sounds are the first to join, demonstrating their leadership in the sector and support for the vibrant independent community, market leaders responsible for 80% of all new music releases and nurturing talent across all languages and genres, and their commitment to working hand-in-hand with it as drivers of change.

Celebrating its 40th Bandcamp Friday in May 2024 with over 24 million monthly fans, Bandcamp has contributed $123 million to artists through this initiative alone.

Andrew Jervis, Bandcamp Director of Artists and Labels: “This is an obvious and essential partnership for us because great independent music thrives from the community. Bandcamp aligns with WIN’s objective to foster and strengthen the global community by offering equitable compensation alongside strong artist-fan engagement, achieved through direct sales of music, vinyl, merchandise, and unique experiences like fan listening parties. As new national organizations supporting independent music are created around the world, WIN becomes even more important. I’m a firm believer that being independent doesn`t equate to being alone. This Supporters program is an obvious way to support WIN`s mission as the organization grows its platform. I look forward to what we can all do together.”

Random Sounds is a music tech company founded in Paraguay in 2014. Their B2B White Label distribution software provides catalog management, quality control tools, real-time analytics, royalty reporting and payouts.
