NASHVILLE, TN (CelebrityAccess) — BMI announced that music legend John Oates will be recognized for his contributions to modern music with a Troubadour Award on September 16.

The award is intended to recognize a songwriter for his impact on the creative community, inspiring following generations.

As one-half of the best-selling rock duo of all time, Hall & Oates reached the US Top 40 with 29 of their 33 singles charting on Billboard’s Hot 100 between 1974 and 1991. The duo’s hits include “Rich Girl” (1977), “Kiss on My List” (1980), “Private Eyes” (1981), “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” (1981), “Maneater” (1982) and “Out of Touch” (1984).

Oates released his first solo album, Phunk Shui, the first of six solo releases, in 2002.

He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a member of Hall & Oates in 2014.

“John Oates has enriched Nashville and its music scene with his special blend of soulful storytelling and guitar playing,” said Nashville’s VP of Creative, Clay Bradley. “His influence has elevated our community to be more accepting and open to all genres of music. We are proud to honor him as this year’s BMI Troubadour.”
